If this is true, please don't change it. Allowing post was one of the
biggest annoyances on the OOo lists (as has already been discussed to
death here).
Let's not forget that we would want larger LibO membership
participation. Some of the non-subscribers are not interested in joining
but are still looking for feedback on their problems with their
favourite office suite. I would assume that is we provide a "more than
adequate" service that some of these may convince them to join and
participate.
There should be a way for non-subscribers to get help without
subscribing officially.
Sure - let them use the forums... or create ONE list that is open to
non-subscribers. Just please don't open them all...
I'm sorry, but I don't have any sympathy with someone who wants free
help, but isn't willing to do the bare minimum of subscribing to an
email list in order to get it.
Well, the free help is not free if they are forced to subscribe to the
email list. I would not consider this then a "free" service.
On the other hand if there was a kinder way of offering them support, we
could probably be fortunate enough to convince some of them to join and
be part of the LibO community.
Refusing them help will only drive our users away and we would have no
one else to blame but ourselves. You surely could not blame someone who
dropped by for some help that was advertised as free help, and who then
found out that the "catch" is to join our group for the help, and who
left and dropped the suite because he/she couldn't get unconditional
free help. We need to structure the "help" forums in such a way as to
help these users.
