Hi Christoph,
Hi Johannes!
...
Does this help?
I'm feeling like stumbling through the fog. If I look at words like
"independent ...", then is it enough to make people aware of LO? Or
should there be a more active way like: What, you have a lousy
internet
connection? Try it in Internet-Café "netlink", XY-Street 45. Use a
500-MB-Stick to download your personel LO, and so on.
What would you do, personally? If you think that its helpful to actively
bring LibO to the people, then please consider to do that. :-)
This is a manifesto, neither a mission statement, nor a strategic
marketing plan, nor an action plan (these, by the way, may be derived
from that). If we cover such things in detail, then you might have the
chance to translate hundreds of pages to cover all the different aspects
(I assume that your questions are still related to the translation of
the manifesto...).
A manifesto is meant to "guide" on a higher level.
I think that's to simple. The manifesto of TDF is based on the reason
why the foundation is created. And that's gives the frame for a "guide"
of any kind. Than terms like "access" cannot be a question of
interpretation.
If TDF really wants to eliminate the digital divide in society by free
choice, than we have to consider the real situation. And that is for
example:
Person X has an office suite on PC which is bound to fees - LO is free
of fees but somewhere in the net and only reachable per lousy modem. And
now Person X decides between a Suite he has on PC and one, that is far away.
Is this a free choice? Is this what TDF means by "eliminate the digital
divide"?
Why not as mission:
Person X has the fees-bounded office suite on PC - and the free LO is on
PC too (or at least on CD next to it like the german LO-Box). Now Person
X decides free between this two without restrictions of accessibility.
That would mean in my opinion: For TDF is "Access"
~ the development of a free Office-Suite on the state of the art
~ the information, that such an Office-Suite exists and how it is reachable
~ to bring this Office-Suite at eye level with the Suite of monopoly
suppliers, to enable everybody the free choice without restrictions (for
example by lousy modems).
And with that we have the frame for certain steps. Because the reason
why TDF exists leads to its mission and the goals of TDF.
Greetings,
Johannes
