Hi Peter,

I hope it's ok if i just say Peter and not Dr. Pöml ?

Of course. Sorry about the stupid header!

I see.

Maybe it could be useful to report this as a bug to Transmission development (which looks like
an open source project, at first glance). The behaviour should be improved, I guess.

That could / should be done but im afraid thats not the end of the
story. Transmission ist just one of the clients with such behavior. I
can compile a list if you want.

I see.

In the last 3 weeks these clients hit my mirror with the following
numbers:

203813 hits resulting in 74.05 GB Traffic.

Hm, I'd think that this is not too bad, but of course that is subjective. Generating logs and
adding some overhead. At least the logs will compress well ;)

So what is needed is a way to configure mirrors to be excluded from
being added to the url-list. Or when that is too much effort disabling
of the webseeds altogether.

Particular mirrors? Which ones do you think should be excluded?

tdf.key-server.de

I assume other mirrors would be affected in the same way, but might not have noticed.

This might be the first deployment of web seeds in this order of magnitude. So it might be a new
situation for both mirrors as well as Torrent client developers.

(Transmission looks like a nice Torrent client. Didn't know it so far. I like it!)

I don't see many requests for torrents made by Transmission clients on our server: only about 5
per day. Maybe it's not that serious? Who disliked this behaviour?

I think thats me.

Transmission clients seem to identify by their HTTP user agent header, so yes, in the end it
should be practical to return webseed-free torrents to them.

Of course that should be possible but there are different clients as
mentioned above and i also don't support torrent at all. I looked into
that and it seems that torrent is not intended to be a daemon on linux
systems and therefore isn't very well supported at all.

Okay. I have to say, at the moment, we don't have a way to disable single mirrors from being listed
in web seeds, so I can't disable this right now for you. I can look into it later.

Thanks for your feedback!

Have a nice WE.

You, and everybody else, as well!
Peter
