Indeed, this is not always easy.
The least that can be done is snip all except the last message. If
people want to see that, there is the previous mail in either the mail
box or in the archives.
Also snipping footer and salutation could be done by default.
The rest often takes more thinking.
I find it interesting to see how people at developer list often can trim.
Of course comparing with that is not completely fair: technical
questions often are easier to snip in parts then more broad discussions.
Another thing that makes trimming easier, is when others start new
sentences at new lines :-)
