Well, it SAYS that it's beta. I still don't recommend anyone using beta software on a "production machine"...the beta build numbers usually have something "less than" the actual final version number...hence the 3.2.99 major...and the .2 for (beta 2)

Is it possible to write the version number in a way that is understandable by mere mortals?

For example, current version of LibreOffice is called 3.3.0beta2 on the website. Yet, when I open "About LibreOffice", I see LibreOffice3.3.0 -- OOO330m9 (Build:1) libreoffice-build 3.2.99.2.

I know I am able to find the proper information, but think about my mother, or think about me, when I want to update my colleagues' computers and can't easily see what version they have.
