Honestly, I disagree. Hiding mail addresses really doesn't help
that much, and to me, the disadvantages (like being unable to
contact someone directly from the archives) are larger than the
advantages you think it has.

I'm happy to switch if the majority wants that, but honestly, it
doesn't help a bit. It's simply worth NOTHING.

I agree with Florian that hiding addresses doesn't help much,

Sorry, I really don't understand why you think it doesn't help. Does it
not prevent spammers from collecting my email address?

I made very different experiences. Email addresses exposed on web pages
got a lot of spam over the time whereas other addresses where I was
careful not to show them in clear text were spared.

and the disadvantages are greater (for me).

Which disadvantages? As had been explained in an earlier mail it is
still possible to contact the email owner from the archives and in your
inbox you see the full address anyhow.

I vote to leave the lists as they are.

I'm against it. At least I want to better understand first why hiding
the addresses does not help.

But we do need to add to the warning on the signup page.

Too late for me...
