Yep, MM3 will definitely be worth a look.

Ok, so I'll make one more effort - how about using extremely short
tags
for the lists (I'm talking about just changing the subject tags, not
the
list names)?

I had short ones, then I was asked to have longer ones. The problem is
that everyone has different preferences, and no matter what we decide,
"the others" have to live with that. Tough task ;)
