Hi Tracey:

Subscribing to this list via Nabble allows you to post without problem via the Nabble interface,
but it does not subscribe you to the list itself. To subscribe to the list itself, send an email
to users+subscribe@global.libreoffice.org. You should then get an email back asking you to
confirm your subscription. When you have answered that, you will be subscribed directly to the
users list, and can post directly, without the intermediary of the Nabble interface.

hmm - only if things changed.

When you post to an email list that requires subscription Nabble will
ask you if you are subscribed - if answer no Nabble asks if you want to
subscribe, if you say yes then you are subscribed to the ML with to the
option set to not receive direct emails. You will receive one email in
your mail client's inbox, the confirmation mail from the mailing list.
At that point you can post either from Nabble or from your email client.

Now there is one added layer here - you must register with the Document
Foundation Nabble repository before you can post to any mailing list
from within the Nabble interface. (Just to be clear that registration is
in the TDF repository, so the TDF Nabble admins see it and admin it,
this is _not_ registering with the NABBLE project in anyway.)

The confusion, if there is any, is on the other options.

You can use the NABBLE interface and change your personal setting for a
ML to receive emails in your mail client inbox. When you do this your
subscription to the ML is _not_ changed, rather the NABBLE software is
now sending each mail from the ML to your inbox. This also means you can
go back and change your setting back to quite mode, later. Nice,
perhaps, for someone that might only want to follow each email while a
particular project is active.

So in this case the user had to register with the TDF NABBLE repository,
but when they went to send email to the ML and where asked if they are
already subscribed they said yes, since NABBLE has no way to verify this
it did what they asked and sent the mail.

If you like I'll write an email to Tracey - and then perhaps post it
here or on the wiki as a standard response for this situation.

Thanks,

//drew
