Hi there,

First off, I am not sure that this is the right category where to report my
problem. Since I didn't know, I chose the most general category I could
find. If there is a better place to get help on my problem, it would be very
kind if someone could point it out to me.

Ah, you might have seen the QA section?
From there you can look in Bugzilla and search for footnote related bugs.

Ok. Today I opened a document in Writer that I had been working on for quite
a while now and realized that all footnotes had disappeared! That is the
digits were still there. However, everything I had written into the
footnotes had vanished.

I remember that there have been some related bugs already fixed. But you might want to look in this list:

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/buglist.cgi?list_id=90396&short_desc=footnotes&query_format=advanced&short_desc_type=allwordssubstr&component=Writer&product=LibreOffice

Much work has gone into this document and this
obviously sucks. If there is any way to recover the footnotes, please help
me to do so!!

The best way of course is to use the backup of your file. But pls try to add info to the relevant issue, if possible. For user questions pls try the users list :-)

Kind regards,
Cor
