Ah, you might have seen the QA section?
From there you can look in Bugzilla and search for footnote related bugs.

I remember that there have been some related bugs already fixed. But you

The best way of course is to use the backup of your file. But pls try to 
add info to the relevant issue, if possible. For user questions pls try 
the users list :-)
