you don't write about the version of LibreOffice (and the environment: OS etc.) that
you used for your test.
I tried with LibreOffice 3.3.2-x64-rc1 on openSUSE 11.3-x64 KDE 4.4.4 and I can't
persuade the icon for vertical text to appear in the drawing toolbar. Thus there must
have been broken something.
