Good evening everyone,[..]
the subject already tells you, this mail is about Wiki improvements.
"What Wiki?" you might ask. Correct, there is none ... but if we want to
change that, it'll be great to know what we require. Once it is set up,
I'm confident that a reasonable structure will greatly help us.
My proposal is to collect some experiences when working with Wiki
content (not so much the Wiki system itself) ... what is good, what can
be improved? It would be great if you could explain why, e.g. "I always
find everything I need within a few clicks.", and stating what you
usually do (e.g. QA work). And you may add what you expect from a
website - being different from a wiki.
When starting a new Wiki it is essential to determine the license from the very beginning and it must be unpossible to contribute without explicitly saying which license is used. For example in www.ooowiki.de in edit mode there is the text "Durch Anklicken von Änderungen speichern stellen Sie Ihre Änderungen unter die GnuFreeDocumentationLicense." (which means, By Clicking on 'Änderungen speichern' you contribute your changes under GnuFreeDocumentationLicense.)
I like to look which Wiki pages are new or changed. But I do not like to go through all languages. The search tools should give an easy way to include or exclude special languages.
I mainly work on content related to Calc. I need an easy way to transform odt-documents with lot of formulas into the wiki-syntax. Currently I have written a text, which is not yet on any Wiki, because it has more than 100 formulas.
The other way round it should be possible to generate odt-documents with real formulas (not pictures) from the Wiki pages.
The Wiki should have a basic structure before contribution starts and this structure should be explained. Especially the way how to organize all the languages should be clear.
